| Pick Up This Bargain Even Cheaper Than Director Schoewe DidBy Dividend Channel Staff, Monday, May 21, 10:34 AM ET
There's an old saying on Wall Street about insider buying: there are many possible reasons to sell a stock, but only one reason to buy. Back on February 22, Northrop Grumman Corp's Director, Thomas M. Schoewe, invested $99,716.20 into 1,660 shares of NOC, for a cost per share of $60.07. Bargain hunters tend to pay particular attention to insider buys like this one, because presumably the only reason an insider would take their hard-earned cash and use it to buy stock of their company in the open market, is that they expect to make money. In trading on Monday, bargain hunters could buy shares of Northrop Grumman Corp (NYSE:NOC) and achieve a cost basis 3.2% cheaper than Schoewe, with shares changing hands as low as $58.14 per share. It should be noted that Schoewe has collected $0.50/share in dividends since the time of their purchase, so they are currently down 2.4% on their purchase from a total return basis. Northrop Grumman Corp shares are currently trading up about 0.9% on the day. The chart below shows the one year performance of NOC shares, versus its 200 day moving average:
Looking at the chart above, NOC's low point in its 52 week range is $49.20 per share, with $70.61 as the 52 week high point — that compares with a last trade of $58.76. By comparison, below is a table showing the prices at which insider buying was recorded over the last six months:
The current annualized dividend paid by Northrop Grumman Corp is $2.2/share, currently paid in quarterly installments, and its most recent dividend has an upcoming ex-date of 05/23/2012. Below is a long-term dividend history chart for NOC, which can be of good help in judging whether the most recent dividend with approx. 3.8% annualized yield is likely to continue.
NOC makes up 5.02% of the iShares Dow Jones U.S. Aerospace & Defense Index Fund ETF (AMEX:ITA) Special Offer: Establish a secure stream of income during your retirement years by following the Retiree Income Portfolio with this free 30 day trial
