PPL is an energy and utility holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co. generates electricity from power plants in the northeastern, northwestern and southeastern U.S.; markets energy mainly in the northeastern and northwestern portions of the U.S.; delivers electricity to customers in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee and the U.K. and natural gas to customers in Kentucky. As of Dec 31 2011, Co.'s subsidiary, Louisville Gas and Electric Company, provided electric service to about 394,000 customers in Louisville and adjacent areas in Kentucky. Also, at such date, Co. operated in four segments: Kentucky Regulated, International Regulated, Pennsylvania Regulated and Supply.
