BB&T is a financial holding company. Through its subsidiary, Branch Banking and Trust Company (Branch Bank), Co. provides a range of banking services to individuals and businesses, and provides a range of loans to businesses and consumers. Branch Bank also markets a range of deposit services to individuals, businesses and public entities. Branch Bank provides, either directly, or through its subsidiaries, lease financing to businesses and municipal governments; factoring; discount brokerage services, annuities and mutual funds; life insurance, and property and casualty insurance, among others. As of Dec 31 2012, Co. had total assets of $183.87 billion and total deposits of $133.08 billion.
