PPL is an energy and utility holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co. generates electricity from power plants in the northeastern, northwestern and southeastern U.S.; markets energy mainly in the northeastern and northwestern portions of the U.S.; delivers electricity to customers in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee and the U.K.; and natural gas to customers in Kentucky. As of Dec 31 2012, Co.'s subsidiary, Louisville Gas and Electric Company, provided electric service to about 393,000 customers in Louisville and adjacent areas in Kentucky. Also, as of the same date, Co. operated in four segments: Kentucky Regulated, U.K. Regulated, Pennsylvania Regulated and Supply.
