United Bankshares is a bank holding company. Through its banking subsidiaries, Co. provides a range of commercial and retail banking services and products including the acceptance of deposits in checking, savings, time and money market accounts; the making and servicing of personal, commercial, floor plan and student loans; and the making of construction and real estate loans. Co. also owns nonbank subsidiaries which engage in other community banking services such as asset management, real property title insurance, investment banking, financial planning, and brokerage services. As of Dec 31 2011, Co. had total assets of $8.45 billion and total deposits of $6.82 billion.
