W.P. Carey provides long-term financing via sale-leaseback and build-to-suit transactions for companies and manages a global investment portfolio. Co. has two key segments: investment management, which structures and negotiates investments and debt placement transactions for the Corporate Property Associates® real estate investment trusts and Co.'s Carey Watermark Investors Incorporated business, and manages their portfolios of real estate investments; and real estate ownership, which owns and invests in commercial properties in the U.S. and the European Union that are then leased to companies. At Dec 31 2011, Co. owned and managed over 980 properties domestically and globally.
