Through its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, The Berkshire Bank (the Bank), Co. provides services to individuals and to small and mid-sized commercial businesses primarily from the New York City metropolitan area. The Bank accepts deposits and invests those deposits in residential and commercial mortgage loans and commercial non-mortgage loans, both unsecured and secured by personal property. In addition, the Bank invests those deposits in debt obligations issued by the U.S. Government, its agencies, business corporations and mortgage-backed securities. At Dec 31 2012, Co. had total assets of $828.0 million and total deposits of $642.5 million.
